The guy who bought this didn't like the suede so we replaced this:

I like the suede a million times better. Is it suede or alcantara?

It was Alcantara. We have the Japanese version of it available to us — ultrasuede. It's funny how you can charge a lot more by giving it a fancy European name.

Well you see... Ultrasuede sounds better than suede. I think you're underselling the suede.
Technically speaking seude and alcantara are not interchangeable; as one is an animal product and the other an artificial composite product.

Ultrasuede is a microfiber suede-like material invented in Japan in the early 70s. Alcantara is a very similar formula from Italy...

Interesting story about Alcantara and Ultraseude. Apparently the Japanese creator of Ultrasuede started manufacturing it in Italy and called it Alcantara.....and convinced a bunch of high end automakers that it wasn't the same horrible fabric from the 70's.
